Ok, truth be told I haven’t used all the run belts, but I did my research, tried a few and landed on the Flipbelt. The Flipbelt is very comfortable, it sits tight around your waist, it is stretchy enough to be comfortable, but tight enough not to be sliding up and down. One of the pros for the Flipbelt is actually that you hardly even notice that you are wearing it.
When I go running, most of the time I am filming my runs, which means I need to bring a lot of stuff with me. Probably more stuff than most other runners will bring in their runs. With the Flipbelt that is no problem, there is room enough for everything.
The pockets are easy to get to and you can separate your items easily so you’re not trying to search for something when you need it during your race. There are 3 different Flipbelts, but space wise they are pretty much the same.
There is the Flipbelt Classic, which has a pocket in the front that is big enough to fit a large smartphone it has a pocket on the side that also provides a hook for your keys, it has a pocket on the other side and one in the back. The space inside the belt all connects, but the pocket openings let you get to it from different sides.
The Flipbelt Zipper is pretty much the same as the Classic, but it has a zipper for the front pocket. Now if you only carry your phone it probably won’t come out of the belt by itself, but if you’re like me and you carry a lot of other items that you might lose, the zipper comes in handy.
And there is the Flipbelt Elite, the newest edition to the Flipbelt family. The Elite has a couple of changes to it and for me the best one is that the pocket in the front is water resistant. It also has a new material on the inside that is Anti-slip and it has a side zip-on so you can put the belt on easier.
For me my preference goes to the Flipbelt Zipper though. The Elite is a nice upgrade, but I’m not a fan of the side zip-on. I’ve had it come loose during a run or a race several times and with the amount of stuff I carry in it that is not a fun thing.
Speaking of stuff, let me paint you a picture of what you can carry in it. On my last marathon I was filming with my GoPro, but recorded my sound separately on a Zoom H1n recorder, it’s a little bit bigger than a Mars bar. I carried my iPhone Xs Max, so one of the bigger phones. 8 spare batteries for my GoPro, 7 Gu Gels and 3 packs of sports jelly beans. So a good amount of stuff in the belt, but it caused no problem whatsoever during the race.
I’ve been running with the FlipBelt for a few years now and I have a couple of different ones, just so I don’t have to worry about it being in the laundry when I want to go for a run.
