Adidas came out with the new Ultraboost 21, so let’s check out and see what the big difference is with the previous versions.
At first look the 21 is quite a bit different in design from the Ultraboost 20 or the 19. Now I never bought the 20, but I have the 19 which was a lot similar in design. But clearly the 21 is a very different shoe. Right now there are 8 different styles and colours for sale of the 21 for men and 6 styles for women, I went with the fluorescent yellow, or as Adidas calls it ‘Solar Yellow’, because they’re least like other shoes I have.
There is a new Torsion System that provides 15% increase in forefoot bending stiffness for a more responsive run.
6% more Boost capsules, so more energy return in your step. And by the looks of it that extra boost is probably all in the heel of the shoe.
The shoe is made with Primeblue, a high-performance recycled material made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic. 50% of the upper is textile and 75% of that textile is
Primeblue yarn, no new polyester.
The sole of the shoe has the familiar continental rubber, but in a very new and colourful style, I love the way it looks.
It looks like the heel has a bit more support than the 19 and the feel of the material is also different. It doesn’t really seem like a good comparison, cause it’s just a very different looking shoe.
The weight of the shoe is 340 grams and it has a 10 mm heel drop.
The shoe runs great. Wether it's the new Torsion System or the 6% extra Boost, there is a difference in running in the new 21s. More responsiveness, more energy return, it just feels like more cushioning in the shoes. I like some extra bounce and therefor the Solar Boosts have been my favourite shoes for a while now and I think the UltraBoosts 21 compares to these very well.
Adidas did a great job on improving the UltraBoost. I thought it was already a great shoe, but the shoe just got better and the design of the shoe just got a lot better too. The colour schemes are really great and on top of that they're more environmentally friendly. So all in all plenty of reasons to get yourself a pair of new UltraBoosts 21s.
